The Story of Baby Moses

Do you all remember the story of Joseph and his colorful coat? Well, this story I’m about to tell you happened a really long time after Joseph’s time—about 200 years later!

Now, the folks from Joseph’s family were known as Israelites or Hebrews.

And you know what?

There were more and more Israelites than ever before. They had kids, and those kids had more kids, and soon, there were so many that you couldn’t even count them all!

So, most of the Israelites lived in Egypt, where there were a lot of people called Egyptians.

It would have been nice if they all saw each other the same way, but as you’ll see, the Israelites and Egyptians were treated very differently.

Now, a new king named Pharaoh became the ruler of Egypt.

The Pharaoh of Egypt

He didn’t like that there were so many Israelites, and he worried that they might take over the land someday. So, he made a tough decision—he turned all the Israelites into slaves.

Pharaoh made the Israelites work really, really hard.

They had to work from early morning until late at night, doing really tough jobs. Even when they were tired, the Egyptians didn’t let them rest. It was really, really tough for the Israelites.

But you know what?

Pharaoh still wasn’t happy.

The Israelite families were still growing, so he made a really unfair rule. He said that if any baby boys were born to the Israelites, they had to be taken away and not allowed to live. 😔

During this time, there was an Israelite couple who were going to have a baby.

When the baby boy was born (and they named him Moses), they decided to keep him hidden because they couldn’t bear to let anyone hurt their wonderful, precious baby. 🌟👶❤️

Moses’ mom and dad kept him hidden for three months. But as he got bigger, he began to stay awake longer and cried louder.

So, his mom and dad thought of a way to keep him safe. They made a strong basket, sort of like a tiny baby boat, and wrapped Moses in cozy blankets. 🧺👶🌟

Then, they put the basket in some tall grass by the Nile river. 🚼🌾

Baby Moses

Baby Moses had a big sister named Miriam. She stayed a little distance away, watching over her baby brother. 👶👧👀

While she was watching, she saw someone approaching. She realized it was Pharaoh’s daughter and her helpers.

They were dressed fancy, like famous people, and Miriam had seen her before and remembered what she looked like. 🌟👶👧👸

Pharaoh’s daughter went swimming in the river.

While she was swimming, she saw a basket floating in the tall grass nearby. So, she asked one of her helpers to go see what it was.

The helper brought the basket to her, and when Pharaoh’s daughter opened it, the light made Moses wake up, and he started crying.

“What a cute, special baby. I think he must be one of the Israelite’s babies,” Pharaoh’s daughter told her helpers.

Miriam saw what happened and quickly went to Pharaoh’s daughter.

The Pharaoh’s daughter

She asked, “Do you want me to find an Israelite lady to feed the baby for you?”

Pharaoh’s daughter said, “Yes, please find someone who can take care of the baby.”

Miriam hurried as fast as she could and told her mom that Pharaoh’s daughter had found the baby and needed someone to take care of him.

They went to where Moses was with Pharaoh’s daughter. She asked them, “Can you help me take care of this baby? I’ll give you something to thank you.” (But she didn’t know this was actually Moses’ mother).

Later on, he became like a son to Pharaoh’s daughter, and that’s when she named him Moses, which means she rescued him from the water. 🌊👶❤️
